Sandwich adapters are essential to the installation of any oil, power steering or transmission cooler, as it provides a pathway for getting the engine oil from the block, to the cooling unit, then back again. Oil filter sandwich adapters have been one of Trans-Dapt's staple product offerings since the early 70’s.
Sandwich adapters are nearly as easy to install as an oil filter itself. Position the o-ring trans-Dapt supplies onto the sandwich adapter, spin the adapter onto the engine block like an ordinary spin-on filter, then mount the oil filter to the opposite side of the adapter using the male threads. Finally, run a pair of ½” oil lines from the cooler unit to the sandwich adapter. Trans-Dapt also offers oil line kits in lengths of 24” to 72” that can be used with their sandwich adapters.
All sandwich adapters have matching male and female threads. In other words, if your engine has a ¾-16” filter nipple size, like a SB Ford V8— or 22mm-1.5 threads, like a newer Chevy LS or Ford Coyote 5.0L, the sandwich adapter will have the identical male thread pitch to receive the oil filter. Trans-Dapt’s cast aluminum construction is sturdy enough to withstand the harsh environment found on performance engines, yet they are priced affordably. The ½” NPT inlet and outlet ports provide sufficient flow of lubricant, and for added protection, each sandwich adapter model has a built-in, spring loaded bypass valve to prevent oil starvation, in the event of a filter blockage.
